It was Tuesday afternoon and I’m sitting here wondering when my new phone is going to get here because I can’t stand having this old, cracked iPhone 5. When my dad gets home he tells me he got a call from the phone lady and she told him my phone should be in tomorrow and so of course I get so excited. However, when Wednesday come and we go up there the man tells us he cannot give us the phone until Friday. So of course I smile at him nicely and say okay but, when I get in the car I immediately get so angry. Why? Because I have to wait a whole two extra days right. So I pitch a fit and have this bad attitude the rest of the day. When I got home I got on Instagram and I saw this picture of little kid in Africa that barely had any clothes on and was happy just having a lollipop and I thought to myself wow I’m being a real brat! It made me realize that who cares I have to wait two more days. So when Friday comes we went through this very difficult process to get my phone (another story for another day lol) but, when I finally get it I’m, of course, stoked but I realize something is still missing. This phone did not make me as happy as I thought it would. This phone gave me happiness for all about 5 minutes and then my life was back to normal. I mean don’t get me wrong I LOVE THE PHONE. And I’m so blessed to be able to have it but, only God can fill that place in our heart that feels empty. This world can provide nothing greater than Gods love and in that moment I realized that more than ever. You can everything in the world but, if you have a relationship with God you can feel so empty on the inside. I know this story many seem dumb to some of you but, this moment was actually a real eye opener for me. I pitched a fit over this phone and when I got it was really not much different than my other one. I also realized that that kid in Africa would have loved to have my old phone and I was even blessed to have that one! So just always remember nothing this world gives you is greater than the love of God!
And not only this, but [with joy] let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance; and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation].
Romans 5:3-4 AMP
The Lord’s desire is that we would grow into spiritual maturity. This is accomplished through the many trials and challenges we face throughout the day. Through every challenge we learn to stand upon God’s word no matter how we feel nor what we see with our eyes. When we confronted with a challenge we either have the choice to align ourselves with the Lord and His kingdom, or abandon our faith and run after the desires of self.
Jesus promised us in this world we would have trouble but to fear not He has over come the world. The Lord defeated the curse of sin and death at the cross and every one who places their faith and trust in Jesus Christ are set free and will spend all eternity in His kingdom. The Lord has called us to persevere and endure. We are not called to run for cover when things become difficult, we are called to stand upon His word and His promises and stay faithful in the place of prayer.
We must remember that our home is not of this world. Our citizenship is in heaven and we are called to focus our hearts upon things above. We live in a dark world and it is becoming darker by the day. If we were to simply focus on the world and its ways we would think that things are out of control and without rhyme or reason. But the truth is that all things happen within the sovereign will of almighty God. He is setting apart a people of Himself and when the time comes the trumpet shall sound and we shall go home.
Until that day let us persevere in the face of challenge and trial. Challenge are a natural part of the Christian walk and if we learn to embrace them and not complain we know that we are beginning to walk in the place of maturity. Maturity will keep our hearts focused upon the Lord and will keep us standing fast in the place of prayer and faith.
I absolutely love this article from The Father’s Heart on WordPress. It tells us how our challenges and trials shape who we are as people and that couldn’t be any closer to the truth.
I am so obsessed with this song. I decided to do a whole post on it because I love it so much. I reminds us of God’s love and how he does everything for the good. It says “As your love in wave after wave, crashes over me”, his love is never ending it continues to flood us in a good way! It goes on to say ‘for you are for us, you are not against me.” When I first head that I was going through a little trial and I was questioning God but, when I heard this song it brought a peace over me. It reminded me that no matter what God is doing for me in my life he is on my side, fighting for me so I know his plan is for the good. Towards the end of the song it goes on to say, ” you make me brave, you called me upon the shore into the waves”, through anything we are brave because we have God on our side and his calling to get off the shore where your standing with just your toes in the water. He wants you to come into the ocean of his grace and fall into his arms because his love has made a way!
I don’t know about you guys but, down in here in south Alabama we take football very seriously. I mean people get in fights over these games. The one thing that people down here in the south can’t stand is fair-weather fans. A fair- weather fan is someone who just goes back and forth to different teams depending on who’s winning. I mean people despise them because most of us in the south are true FOLLOWERS of one team not just FANS. In the dictionary the definition of the word follower is “a devotee of a particular person, cause, or activity”. Now let me ask you this question. Compare your walk with the Lord with these two definitions. Most of us want God to just give to us and bless us but, we don’t give anything back. We cry out only when we need help. So are you a fan of Christ (believe in God but, don’t actually have a relationship with him) or are you a follower (take up the cross daily and follow God). I cant make this decisions for you but, if you are in that category with Fan’s then God is leading you out he wants you to FOLLOW him!
“If anyone wishes to follow me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)
Pride is something that we always struggle with in our life and we probably always will struggle with our life. We want to live for God but, at the same time we don’t want to hurt our pride. I struggle daily with this. I think to myself, are the people I hang out with cool enough or oh, I don’t want to be seen talking to this person because they aren’t considered cool so instead of reaching out to others, we just walk on by. Little do we know what that person was going through at home. That girl that wears the same thing to school everyday, probably can’t afford clothes and probably doesn’t have the best home life but, here we are too afraid to talk to them because our pride may be hurt. God Says:
“Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord: be assured, he will not go unpunished.” (Proverbs 16:5)
“One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.” (Proverbs 29:23)
“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ” God opposes the proud but gives grace to humble.”
As you can tell, if we humble ourselves and we are no longer prideful, we will be blessed by God’s grace. However, if we are arrogant and prideful then it will not go unpunished and we will end up paying for it. Therefore, even though it may be difficult sometimes we have to humble ourselves in the Lord.

Being a teenage girl in faith in this day and age can be very difficult. You see the celebrities who have all the expensive clothes, cars, and everything else and we want to be just like them. We want all the expensive things like they do and we get so caught up in those things instead of wanting the things the Lord wants us to have. The problem with wanting these worldly things is that we want them so bad and then when we finally get them, they are never enough. We still have this empty spot. You see some of the richest people in the world and they could get anything they wanted but, often times they are the most unhappiest people because they try and depend on worldly things to make them happy but, it is never enough. That’s why God says:
“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him.” (1 John 2:15)
Now we are all guilty of this. I’m writing this to tell you that I’m not perfect and no one is. As girls we want that newest pair of shoes or new outfits all the time. Trust me it is good to get those things. I’m not saying you can’t get any new things but, if it becomes to where you have to have them, then it is a problem because we should not depend on clothes for our happiness, we should depend on God. God is the only one who can fill that void in our heart. As girls we also worry what people think of us. Like is my outfit cute enough or does my hair look good. We worry a little too much what others think? Like does it really matter? Well… It does to God because over 100 times in the Bible it says fear God not other people.
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)
“For he said to the man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'” (Job 28:28)
“In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have refuge.” (Proverbs 14:26)
I will admit these things are hard. I struggle with them every day and I’m sure you do too and keeping your faith can be hard through all these things. You want to give up and just fall into the love of money. You want to be rich and do what every one else is doing but, the lord wants you to stand out and be different. When you stand out and be different, others will notice and follow your lead. So in those moments when you feel like giving up, just keep walking.
Thank God for continual new beginnings.
