Temptations and Keeping Faith

Being a teenage girl in faith in this day and age can be very difficult. You see the celebrities who have all the expensive clothes, cars, and everything else and we want to be just like them. We want all the expensive things like they do and we get so caught up in those things instead of wanting the things the Lord wants us to have. The problem with wanting these worldly things is that we want them so bad and then when we finally get them, they are never enough. We still have this empty spot. You see some of the richest people in the world and they could get anything they wanted but, often times they are the most unhappiest people because they try and depend on worldly things to make them happy but, it is never enough. That’s why God says:

“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him.” (1 John 2:15)

Now we are all guilty of this. I’m writing this to tell you that I’m not perfect and no one is. As girls we want that newest pair of shoes or new outfits all the time. Trust me it is good to get those things. I’m not saying you can’t get any new things but, if it becomes to where you have to have them, then it is a problem because we should not depend on clothes for our happiness, we should depend on God. God is the only one who can fill that void in our heart. As girls we also worry what people think of us. Like is my outfit cute enough or does my hair look good. We worry a little too much what others think? Like does it really matter? Well… It does to God because over 100 times in the Bible it says fear God not other people.

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)

“For he said to the man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'” (Job 28:28)

“In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have refuge.” (Proverbs 14:26)

I will admit these things are hard. I struggle with them every day and I’m sure you do too and keeping your faith can be hard through all these things. You want to give up and just fall into the love of money. You want to be rich and do what every one else is doing but, the lord wants you to stand out and be different. When you stand out and be different, others will notice and follow your lead. So in those moments when you feel like giving up, just keep walking.
